Testing times.
Changes in the engineering sector resulting from recent consolidation and the introduction of new legislation, has prompted insurers to add impetus to their cover in the form of inspection and certification services. Shona Cronin reports.
The engineering insurance sector has undergone a substantial upheavalin the last two years, with both rampant market consolidation and the
introduction of new legislation.
There are now only four main insurers in the market: Royal & SunAlliance,
Zurich (which now includes Eagle Star), Allianz Cornhill Engineering and
HSB Haughton Insurance. ACE Europe (formerly Cigna International) and
several Lloyd's Syndicates are also involved in the sector, however, they
do not offer engineering inspection
