Scottish broker Giles has recently lost a contract to service the Macdonald Hotel chain - a premium costing £3.5m annually. However, it strenuously refuted allegations that this was over a billing issue. Macdonald awarded the contract to Aon last month and it continued to be underwritten by ST Paul Travellers.
Market sources indicated that confusion over how Giles was remunerated, because some payment was made in fees and some with commission, was a central issue in Giles losing the tender. A
