The tension between brokers and insurers was voted as being a positive force by 61% of delegates, following the debate 'Brokers and Underwriters, Ne'er the Twain Shall Meet'.

Only 39% agreed with it beforehand but opinion swung after the motion was put forward by Brendan McManus, commercial director of Royal & SunAlliance, and George Moore, senior partner at HMB Sayers. Andy Homer, chief executive of Folgate, and Bill Macreath, partner at Levy and McRae argued against the motion.

McManus said that
