Solicitors Vizards Oldham has welcomed yesterday's decision in the case Bradford-Smart v West Sussex County Council, which ruled a school's duty to prevent bullying ends at the gate.
Leah Bradford-Smart from Crawley, West Sussex, was seeking £75 000 damages from the council claiming she suffered psychiatric injuries when aged nine and 12 as a result of negligence by staff at Ifiled Middle School, Crawley.
Mr Justice Garland ruled that a school should take reasonable steps to prevent bullying
