The Motor Insurers' Bureau has drawn up plans with the police and the government for tougher penalties and better methods of identifying uninsured drivers. The MIB predicts this could result in an additional 50,000 successful prosecutions of uninsured drivers in the next 12 months.
New powers provided by the Serious Organised Crime Act will enable the MIB to pass on details of suspected uninsured drivers to police forces across the UK. There will also be greater use of automatic number-plate
