The Association of British Insurers has warned the government that insurers may not take on flood risks in the future unless lessons are learned from recent events.
In an open letter to Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the ABI's director general Stephen Haddrill hinted that the government's plans to build further housing on flood plains could result in insurers refusing to offer cover for those properties unless sufficient money was spent on flood
