Just what the doctor ordered
The Chartered Insurance Institute has experienced a radical shake-up under the directorship of Dr Sandy Scott, leading to a more modern and accessible approach. After getting his house in order he suggests brokers to do the same in preparation for regulation. Diane Smyth explains.
Contrary to popular belief, Dr Sandy Scott, director general of theChartered Insurance Institute, has never been a heart surgeon. He was a
cardiologist in the army before moving into the insurance sector as a
medical adviser at PPP Healthcare.
Staff and members of the CII could be forgiven for mistaking him for an
emergency operator, however, after the radical shake-up he has given the
institute. When Dr Scott joined in September 2000, it had been losing
money and members at a dramatic rate -
