Service Motor Policies at Lloyd's has slashed its agency base by over
half and is seeking to shrink its portfolio of risks in a bid to turn the
syndicate around.


Set up by Nigel Martin in February 1997, syndicate 1222 is expected to
turn in heavy losses for 1997, which was its first year of trading.


Mr Martin resigned from his position as active underwriter at the end of
last year when Greenwich Insurance Holdings bought Service and its
managing agency.


Mr Martin has been replaced by deputy
