Macclesfield-based commercial broker Bollington has sold a majority stake to Groupama UK, having rejected both a potential flotation or investment from a venture capital group. Market sources suggest the stake is 60%.

Directors Paul Moors and Joe and Stephen Wall will keep stakes in the business and continue to run the broker, which specialises in niche small to medium-sized insurance, independently. However, Groupama UK chief executive and chairman Pierre Lefevre will take a place
