The Association of British Insurers is seeking to improve the market's understanding of the growing problem of burglary with the publication of a new report.
Crime Statistics Underwriting reveals that there were 1.6 million domestic burglaries in 1997 in England and Wales, half of which were unsuccessful attempts. Three quarters of those involving entry resulted in some form of loss. Burglaries increased by 137% between 1981 and 1993, but the rate has since fallen by 8%. Levels of home
