It is time the industry came down hard on claims fraud, says Chris Hill. Unlocking the secrecy surrounding data protection would be a massive step forward, allowing brokers to weed out suspect applications.
The Association of British Insurers' recent survey into fraud madegrim reading for the insurance industry. The Attitudes to Honesty Index
confirmed that approximately three million people in the UK have already
made a fraudulent insurance claim and 48% of the UK adult population would
do so in future.
The report formally confirmed what the industry has suspected for many
years - a small but growing minority of claimants is dishonest, driving up
insurance costs for honest policyholders. It is time
