It is uncertain exactly how the proposed Government legislation regarding licensing laws will affect the insurance industry, though brokers should be prepared to reassess clients' requirements, finds Anne Simon.
Licensing laws in England and Wales are set to change under proposedGovernment legislation, allowing 24-hour opening, seven days a week. The
new rules will end fixed closing times for licensed premises, affecting
some 175,000 businesses selling or serving alcohol including pubs,
restaurants, clubs and supermarkets. Longer opening hours will give a
much-needed boost to the leisure sector, but higher insurance premiums
will be the inevitable sting in the tail for licensed traders.
