Towergate has confirmed it is in exclusive negotiations to acquire NFU Mutual-owned Country Mutual Insurance Brokers. The deal, if successful, would be Towergate's largest broking acquisition to date, bringing over £100m in gross written premium and almost 400 staff to the consolidator. Such a move would bring Towergate a step closer to its ambitious GWP target for 2006 of £2bn, although, it is understood the acquisition is unlikely to include CMIB's Channel Islands operation.
