Profitability has risen sharply in the general insurance market as awhole, but fallen in the broker sector, according to the Confederation of
British Industry's latest quarterly financial services survey.
General insurance was one of only two major sectors reporting a rise in
business confidence. This sector also reported sharp increases in business
volume, average commissions and employment levels. The CBI attributed the
increases to an upswing in the insurance cycle.
