Overriders and profit-sharing arrangements have come under close scrutiny in recent months. Jennifer Jarrett asks whether this form of payment is really in the brokers' best interest.

In April this year, the Financial Times "disclosed" that commercial
insurance brokers are "receiving payments from underwriters as well as
fees or commission" and cast doubt on whether it is in the clients' best
interest for this practice to continue. The question of whether to take
advantage of offers of more money in the form of profit-share or
commission overriders from the insurance companies is one that raises the
