In recent months a number of insurers have made it clear that they intend to scale back their involvement with certain managing general agents (MGAs) or, as I prefer to call them, underwriting agencies. In the process, there have been some negative sentiments expressed about the model by a number of senior industry figures.
The message coming from some insurers overlooks the fact that these deals were arrived at voluntarily and that they anticipated a positive top and bottom line result. Insurers
