News: Das CEO assures UK exit rumours are 'nonsense'

The chief executive of legal expenses insurer Das has slammed industry speculation that it may be looking to pull out of the UK as "absolute nonsense".

Paul Asplin said the UK business was central to the company's plans and that there could be acquisition opportunities in the near future.

As reported in Insurance Age (February 2010, p11), Mr Asplin questioned whether the UK model had "run its course" and could be replaced by the continental stand-alone model.

Mr Asplin said: "We have a commitment to marketing an effective stand-alone product and while we appreciate this is a massive task, we have already started to develop the infrastructure

Industry reacts to discount rate change

Insurance industry specialists have welcomed the government moving the personal injury discount rate to 0.5% with PwC calculating it will lower motor premiums by £50 on average.
