Only one in four weddings insured

Only one in four weddings taking place this summer will be insured, despite around £20,000 splashed-out on the average ceremony, according to Datamonitor.

According to Datamonitor, £1.5m will be spent on wedding insurance this summer but 75,000 summer weddings will be uninsured.

It said that a 50% increase in the number of wedding insurance policies is expected by 2014 as costs and awareness rise.

Datamonitor predicts that one in four couples will take out wedding insurance this summer to protect what is a significant financial and emotional investment for many.

It said that weddings peak over the summer with approximately 100,000 couples expected
