Aviva chief hints that market may finally be hardening

The UK could be seeing the first evidence of market hardening in commercial lines, according to Mark Hodges, chief executive of Aviva UK although he declined to predict whether any increase would hold or how far it would go.

“We are very disciplined on our rating,” he told Insurance Age.

“We have seen some small evidence recently of rates just starting to creep up a little and we would like to see that continue. In commercial motor we are achieving good rate increases. Across the rest of the [commercial] book we are just seeing the first evidence of some hardening in the market.
