No ban for referral fees, says LSB
The Legal Services Board (LSB) has recommended that referral fees be allowed to continue but with strengthened transparency obligations to manage their impact and prevent abuses.
The independent body overseeing the regulation of lawyers in England and Wales, published its decisions at the conclusion of its review into the future regulation of referral fees in the legal services market.
It stated that new guidance required approved regulators, such as the Law Society and the Bar Council, to make sure that consumers know when referral fees are in operation and to whom they are being paid. The approved regulators will also need to improve regulatory policing of lawyers'
