Independent 10 years on - the second broker instalment

In our continuing coverage of broker reflection on the fall of Independent Insurance, Bluefin’s Stuart Reid and Tim Ryan of Ryan Insurance share their thoughts.

In June 2001 Mr Reid was working at Stuart Alexander based in the City.

Mr Reid said his relationship with the insurer was "good but becoming difficult as you were either 'in' and did loads of business with them or 'out' and did not.

"We liked what they had to offer but did not like this all or nothing dynamic."

Denying being the recipient of the insurer's infamous hospitality, Mr Reid said the legacy Independent had left was bad for the market's reputation although there were positives such as
