OFT continues to target private motor over competition concerns

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has opened a consultation aimed at addressing competition issues in the private motor market.

The OFT raised concerns over an analysis tool which allowed seven insurance companies to access the pricing information supplied to brokers by their competitors.

At the time the OFT warned the insurers in question that there was an increased risk of price coordination due to the nature of this information.

Following the investigation, in January 2011 the OFT opened a consultation on draft commitments to resolve the problem.

As a result of this consultation the OFT has accepted an amendment to
