ABI advises alcohol ban and curfew for young drivers
A ban on alcohol and restricted driving hours are two of the proposals set out by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in a bid to reduce accidents among drivers aged under 25.
The trade body highlighted that although only 12% of licence holders were younger than 25, one in four people killed in road accidents was a young driver or one of their passengers.
It added that young male drivers constituted the most at-risk group and that they were five times more likely to be involved in a crash than males in the 35-59 age bracket.
The ABI has proposed that a minimum one-year learning period be enforced for learner drivers aged under 25.
