ABI calls for greater political commitment to flooding plans
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has called for cross-party political support to ensure that the UK can properly tackle flood risk.
Speaking at a flood summit organised by the Labour Party, Nick Starling, director of general insurance at the ABI, said cross party agreement was necessary to allow a “rigorous planning system” to prevent developments in high flood risk areas.
He also highlighted the need for sustained, long-term flood defence spending that “keeps pace with the threat” and is targeted to those areas of greatest need.
In addition he called for recognition that flood insurance could only continue to remain widely
