Tougher penalties planned for uninsured drivers
The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) has welcomed plans to enforce tougher penalties for motorists caught driving without insurance.
The current fixed penalty is £200, which will rise to £300 under plans announced by Transport Minister Stephen Hammond MP.
Graeme Trudgill, executive director of Biba, said the trade body had being calling for tougher penalties for uninsured drivers for a long time.
He added: “We recently discussed increasing the sanctions for those caught driving without insurance with Stephen Hammond and we’re pleased that he has announced a tougher stance which should act as a deterrent.
