Insurance claims handler sentenced after £7,000 flood fraud

An insurance claims handler who swindled almost £7,000 from her employer to fund shopping trips has been sentenced.

Kelly Mawson, 29, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of fraud by false representation at Leyland Magistrates' Court in Lancashire. 

She was handed an 18-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to complete 250 hours unpaid work. Ms Mason must also pay her previous employer, an insurer, £600 compensation.

It came after Ms Mawson's employer granted her temporary permission to authorise claims up to £1,000 after flooding in Scotland during October and November 2012.
