Insurers spot 3,500 fraudulent motor applications a week
Data, collected for the first time by the ABI, finds that there were 180,675 fraudulent motor applications in 2013.
Figures published by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) revealed that during 2013 insurers identified 180,675 dishonest motor insurance applications - around 3,500 per week.
It is the first time the ABI has collected data of this kind and includes applications where motorists had lied about or knowingly failed to disclose relevant information, such as previous claims, and unspent motoring convictions, when asked.
