Gross written premiums drop despite growth in number of in-force policies over third quarter of 2014.

Direct Line Group (DLG) has reported a drop in gross written premiums for the third quarter of 2014.

Commercial premiums fell from £110.8m in the equivalent quarter in 2013 to £109.6m this year.

This was despite the number of in-force policies actually increasing 2.6% from 600,000 to 606,000 over the three months. The total was also ahead of the 571,000 in-force policies registered in Q3 2013.

The commercial lines business includes the NIG brand which represents the bulk of DLG's commercial book
