Cigna sells to Anthem in $54.2bn deal
US-based health insurers brought together will have 53 million customers.
Anthem Inc. has agreed to buy Cigna Corporation in a $54.2bn (£35bn) deal.
Under the terms of the agreement Anthem will acquire all outstanding shares of Cigna - which has a division selling healthcare products through brokers in the UK - in a cash and stock transaction.
Cigna shareholders will receive $103.40 in cash and 0.5152 Anthem common shares for each Cigna common share giving a total price of $188 per share.
After the deal Anthem will have more than $115bn in annual revenues and cover
