Sharp rise in premium for building insurance

AA Premium Index show increase in home premiums but motor premiums fall in Q1 2016.

The AA's benchmark British Insurance Premium Index shows that premiums for a typical buildings policy appear to have taken a sharp upward turn over the first three months of 2016.

The average quoted Shoparound premium (average of the five cheapest quotes for each ‘customer' in a nationwide basket of risks) jumped by 5.4% for the quarter ending 31 March 2016 to £114.52.

This compares with a rise of 6.7% over the last quarter of 2015 which the AA said was largely attributable to the increase in
