Going for growth? Go for healthcare: There are large numbers of SMEs in the market for health cover for staff and brokers are well placed to meet the demand, says Paul Moulton

With pressure visibly rising on the NHS, it’s a good time for brokers who are new to healthcare cover or haven’t sold it for a while to see how it could help grow their business. The SME market, worth around £1.2bn according to industry analyst LaingBuisson, looks especially promising.

There are plenty of SMEs about – 5.5m, employing nearly 16m people, according to the Office for National Statistics. And, while three quarters of SME owners we’ve surveyed say their people are critical to success
