CMA: Ardonagh’s Bennetts buy raises competition concerns
Government body says Ardonagh and Bennetts have five working days to address the CMA’s concerns, after it found that the merged company would face “only little competition” from other much smaller motorcycle insurance specialists.
Ardonagh’s purchase of Bennetts could lead to higher prices, less choice and worse services for UK motorcyclists, according to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
The CMA officially launched a merger inquiry into the deal, which was first flagged earlier this year, in July.
In August, the government body published an enforcement order which required Ardonagh to keep Bennetts separate from the rest of the business until the investigation is completed.
