Household insurers are set to benefit from the government's proposed
crackdown on domestic burglary.


Last month, Home Secretary Jack Straw outlined a two-pronged approach to
tackling crime, put forward in the Home Office report, Reducing Crime and
Tackling its Causes.


The programme will see the introduction of three year minimum sentences
for those convicted of a third offence of domestic burglary, effective
from December 1999. This will run alongside the £50m being spent over
three years in the 500
