Originally looking to be a large regional player, Paul Meehan tells Diane Smyth why the broker is now seizing other opportunities and seeking to spread nationwide.

When Paul Meehan was interviewed for Broking Success in 1998, Smart
and Cook was doing well. The company had 160 staff, had grown by 20% in
three years, expanded to four offices and planned to become a big regional
broker in the Yorkshire area. Just three years later, the company has 250
staff, nine offices in the North and Scotland, competes against the
