Despite a drop in the number of syndicates, the Lloyd's motor market is still a force to be reckoned with, says Andrew Newman.

The obstacles facing Lloyd's motor underwriters are not that
different from the massed threats confronting their colleagues in the
company market.


Any single threat could cancel out the positive effect of the rate
increases now trickling through, but one such event, specific to Lloyd's,
takes place next year when the guarantee for the broker becomes
optional.


Service companies have given non-Lloyd's brokers direct access to
underwriters for some time, so that when the guarantee becomes optional
thing
