Independent Insurance now has 53% of its regional commercial business
on long-term policies, of which 80% are on five-year contracts and 25% are
on three-year contracts. The insurer started actively marketing long-term
policies just under two years ago.


Michael Gaughan, marketing manager at Independent, explained: "The
majority of our regional commercial clients are on five-year policies
because we only offer these terms to existing clients who we know and that
