An increasingly litigious society has increased the pressure on the liability sector, with many in the industry unsure of which way to turn. Keith Purvis says insurers and employers must stop cutting corners if they want to prevent the situation from spinning out of control

Fat people suing fast food outlets for their weight problems might
once have been filed under 'it could only happen in America'. However,
liability insurers across the world are now waking up to the fact they
have to expect the unexpected and increase rates dramatically, if they
hope to stay in business.


Public and products liability claims are rising and the increase in the
frequency and severity of employers' liability claims have left many
insurers in severe financial straits.
