Solicitors have voted in favour of obtaining professional indemnity
cover from the open market rather than the Solicitors' Indemnity Fund.

A total of 28 975 votes were received in the postal ballot conducted by
the Law Society, of which 19 795 voted for the open market and 8303
against. This constitutes a 70.4% vote in favour of the open market, which
although not binding on the Law Society is likely to be persuasive.

The society is due to debate the results on 23 June.
