The Confederation of British Industry has warned that governmentproposals for the new offence of corporate killing could leave companies
defenceless.
The CBI pointed out that there are no clear tests of whether a firm is to
blame. The organisation has also highlighted the fact that firms already
face unlimited fines under existing health and safety laws. It argues any
new offence should apply to behaviour that wilfully or recklessly
disregards foreseeable risks to employees or the general public.
