NIG has bought Avon's general insurance business from NFU Mutual.Avon's personal and commercial lines policies will be transferred to NIG
from 1 January 2003 and will be renewed by NIG though still branded Avon.
The 180 staff from Avon's 11 regional offices will be redeployed within
NIG and there are no plans for redundancies. Avon's Stratford head office
will be closed.
The sale represents about 45,000 commercial and 305,000 personal lines
policies, which in 2001 represented a gross written
