Troubled by the protection of a chain reaction

Q: As we have a limited number of agencies, we tend to use other brokers for difficult risks. With recent queries concerning 'chains' how should I protect myself and my clients?

Market conditions have driven more brokers down this route and also
created an opportunity for those prepared to offer facilities to
sub-brokers.


There have been horror stories, however, and in one case a chain of 13
links between carrier and client.


The very least you should do is verify that the source with whom you are
placing the business has an agency with the carrier. If they, in turn, are
using another broker, follow the chain all the way through and ensure the
cover your client proposes is
