Richard Trinder, general insurance manager of Assitalia's Birmingham
branch, is looking to retain a large number of the insurer's brokers,
clients and staff for a new business venture, following the Italian
company's withdrawal from the UK.

The decision to quit the market comes hard on the heels of the takeover of
Assitalia's parent, INA, by Generali, which withdrew from the UK
provincial market last June. Mr Trinder, who was poached from Generali
seven months ago to set up the Birmingham office
