Bacon & Woodrow is forecasting that the UK motor market will suffer
losses of around £1.2bn for 1998. The consulting actuary said the four
largest motor insurers - Royal & SunAlliance, CGU, Norwich Union, and
Direct Line - posted underwriting losses of £390m, which "does not bode
well for the market as a whole".
