There has been a plethora of dotcoms launched in the insurance industry in the past few years but it seems the heavy-weights consistently have the upper hand over their start-up counterparts.

There is much to be said for the old adage "bigger is better". The UK
general insurance market is dominated by giants, most of which have
already entered the online marketplace.


Widespread internet use is only a few years old yet already it looks like
the big boys' dotcorp offerings will prevail over dotcom start-ups.


Over recent months, a number of start-up specialist e-financial services
providers have closed their doors. The latest in the line are Screentrade
and theformula, which owner Misys
