Insurers have reported a steady increase in profitability for the first six months of 2004, with both commercial lines and personal lines performing well.

Zurich Financial Services UK, Ireland and South African (UKISA) business reported a 44% increase in operating profit over the first six months of 2004 to $322m (£177.39m). UKISA saw positive developments in the UK commercial and personal lines markets with regard to volume, which offset a decrease in large corporate lines of business.
