Do tax efficient investment schemes apply to brokers?

Q: I am looking for external investment in my business to fund acquisitions but am told that certain tax efficient schemes for investment do not apply to insurance brokers. Is this true?

A: The Government has actively encouraged individuals to invest risk
capital in small and medium-sized unquoted companies. This has been
achieved by offering valuable tax incentives.


Two of the most important such incentives are the Enterprise Management
Incentive (EMI) and the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS). These offer
substantial tax breaks to encourage wider employee share ownership and
third party capital investment, respectively.


The detailed legislation excludes certain businesses
