Market analysts are watching the rumoured take over of Heath Lambert by Jardine Lloyd Thompson with scepticism, as some believe such deals fail to provide the value they are designed to deliver.

JLT, according to sources of Professional Broking's sister title Post Magazine, has been carrying out due diligence on Heath Lambert since mid-July.

However one analyst, who did not wish to be named, said: "Looking back to the big broker acquisitions between larger players in the late 1980s and early 1990s
