EU regulation directive to have massive impact.

Professional Broking recently hosted a round table event, inviting insurers to share their views on the future of the broker market. Diane Smyth reports on the issues raised.

The EU directive on regulation will have a huge impact on the UK
insurance industry, according to those present at the Professional Broking
round table meeting.


Passed this year, the directive is expected to become UK law within two
years. Under the directive, each country's insurance industry has to be
regulated by a statutory body - in the UK the only statutory body
currently in place is the Financial Services Authority.


This places further uncertainty over the future of the General Insurance

FSCS gives first insight on increasing levy to £394m

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme has indicated its levy for 2025/26 will rise to £394m from £265m this financial year as it cited having lower surpluses to carry forward and offset bills – a factor that has benefited brokers for two years in a row.
