Sorting out health and safety responsibilities.

Q: One of my clients is a new employer and is concerned about the safety of their employees. Could you provide me with a basic outline of their health and safety responsibilities? How important is it for them to carry out regular risk assessments?

It is important your client regularly carries out thorough risk
assessments to identify possible risk of injury. Employers are expected to
comply with extensive obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act
1974 and associated regulations and codes.


Employers have responsibilities depending on the specifics of their
business but the main task is to ensure, as far as is reasonably
practicable, the health, safety and welfare of employees at work.


The practical implications for employers are
