Appointed as managing director of Country Mutual Insurance Brokers in 2000, Neil McKenzie is keen to streamline the business, only buying brokers he believes have the right fit for the company. Diane Smyth reports.

The National Farmer's Union Mutual set up Country Mutual Insurance
Brokers in 1998, after a McKinsey report recommended it consider an
alternative means of distribution to its 600-strong network of tied
agencies. Today, CMIB has a combined premium income of £106m and is one of
the fastest growing brokers in the UK.


Neil McKenzie, appointed managing director of CMIB in 2000, does not take
